Sharing is caring!
In the fast-changing world scenario where the business world entered into the digital world, all the businesses worldwide are forced into it due to the pandemic. The imperative strategic change has been seen in the industry and how to go about it. And the one to lead a step forward is invariably a Leader.
There are different leadership flavors- leaders are influential willed and autocratic, some are open-minded and democratic, some are laissez-faire, employee-centric leadership, and most of the other leaders fall in the middle of it all. At the same time, there is a leadership style that varies from experience across borders.a
Simon Sinek, one of the renowned British authors who always starts with “Why.” He suggested that great leaders motivate with the words “why,” a deeper-rooted purpose in his premise. He stated about his thought of a leader that “I believe that not only great leaders deprioritize the “how,” but the most important ones leave the “How” for their employees to figure out.
Have you been through instances in which the leader or the manager explains the specificity by dealing with “How” as the question? In some cases, leaders provide specificity of- how to do a particular task but eventually fail to share the bigger picture, the “Why” behind it. No one agrees to be micromanaged. Micromanagers focus explicitly on the “How,” which results in short-term success at the expense of the long-term strategy, which states the overall scalability and employee satisfaction.
A Good Leader is one who sets lofty goals for their teammates and drives them towards the fulfillment of their vision. In contrast, great leaders include the team in the mission planning, processing, and inspiring them to find the path to achieve the team’s vision collectively.
Good Leaders Focus On:-
Managing more than leading- Leading and managing are known to be different disciplines. Good leaders can correctly handle the team by ensuring that the given assignments are done on time, task, and budget. They know the ways to make sure how to get things done.
There are also times when they cannot engage, inspire, and emotionally connect people to the narrative mission.
The task, not the result- Good leaders assign duties and responsibilities which are entirely designed to accomplish a specific task or goal. This is one such highly effective approach, which mainly leads to a task-oriented team.
Commanding from the top-The, highly effective good leaders are in traditional command and control environments. They are considered to be at the top of the hierarchy and build an unbroken chain of command. They are good at placing the right people in the right roles.
More talking and less listening-While busy commanding subordinates and doling out orders, good leaders often tend to enlist feedback from the team. Valuable intakes from the front-line troops could be essential for process improvements and teach more effective strategic planning.
Developing others, not themselves- Good leaders often assume that it takes everything to accomplish the mission: intelligence, drive, resilience. The importance of talent development is recognized and impacts engagement and team performance. But what they tend to skip is that you can’t lead a team effectively until you lead yourself, which starts with improving self-improving self-awareness and becoming a lifelong learner.
Transactional leadership- Transactional refers to the fact that this type of leader primarily motivates the subordinates by exchanging rewards. These are the ones who are more concerned with maintaining the normal operation flow- Keeping the ship float. Transactional leaders use power as an array of incentives to motivate employees to give their best.
Whereas The Great Leaders Are The Ones With:-
The result, not the task- Great leaders are:-
- The ones with a unique talent for defining a clear vision.
- Getting feedback on it.
- Gaining buy-in.
- Proving boundaries.
- Inspiring creative solutions.
Leading and following- Great leaders understand the real dichotomy of leadership, i.e., developing and leading both. They are sagacious enough to know when to do what. And also set examples that the others can follow towards success.
They are serving from the bottom- When to lead and when to follow, great leaders are authentic servants of their people. They pen down the needs of their team that is associated with mission success and the individual needs of each member.
Allowing creativity and innovation is one such mechanism required as the team’s cultural bedrock’s highest-performance in the business. Results are defined and are agreed upon by the group; great leaders know how to align the rituals, behavior, and action required to achieve an outcome. Innovation and creativity are indispensable not only for engaging the team members but also to drive the best result out of it.
Developing themselves than the others- Leaders are kept on the parameter of constant change and self-development. Leaders are the ones who don’t only lead or make sure that the team members meet the targets or not but have the mental and physical ability and are avid readers and fitness enthusiasts. Good leaders are open to feedback, but being great leaders requires implementing those feedback.
Transitional Leadership- Leaders go beyond metamorphosis from managing day-to-day activities to the next level, planning strategies to taking the entire team performance up to the next level of success. This focuses on how well the team has built itself up and with what all levels the members have made a positive change.
