Leadership defines the actual act of preparing and inspiring other team members to work towards achieving the common goal. Efficient leaders are based upon the idea and vision that they communicate with the other team members to engage them and ensure that they complete the given task.
In today’s business, leadership is connected to performance results and the ability to influence team members to realize company goals. While it’s not solely about profit, those who are viewed as influential leaders are the ones who strive hard to increase their company’s bottom line. In a leadership role, it is not about just meeting profits but growing on both the personal level and professional levels.
Being born as a leader or being made one- Some people seem to have an innate quality of being an effective and efficient leader. There are also instances where anyone can learn the skills or work on them to become a leader. Being a business professional, chances are you might have a ton of leadership experience.
According to Forbes magazine, Erika Anderson, the author of “Leading So People Will Follow,” states leadership capabilities that empower a person to become a great leader rather than a follower.
Effective leadership is based upon ideas to help accomplish common goals and allow people to connect with their immense potential and achieve purposeful things collectively.
The level of efficient leaders that allows high task-focus leaders to be productive often comes at the expense of more people-focus either by building relationships, inspiring teams, or developing. It happens most of the time that highly efficient leaders often lose their focus on people. This is due to the limited belief that people-focused activities will slow them down and impede their ability to execute and ultimately be successful.
The irony in the current scenario is that it has an intense focus on efficient leaders, making these leaders less effective, impacting the organizational climate and burnout of team members. In a 2017 study by Kronos and future workplace, burnout was highlighted as one of the biggest threats to employee engagement, with 95% of HR leaders turning out to be the key drivers of employee turnover.
Great leaders can create a balanced task focus while being people-focus. A leader who is highly task-focused on who will always have tunnel vision. To compel rather than apply a broader organizational need in their mind related to people skills, such as listening, developing, and empowering, all of which come together in leadership qualities.
But everything has its implications from highly task-focused people who are more reactive, operating in the position of fear, displaying highly directive, controlling, or have a perfectionist kind of behavior that can alienate others and act in reverse of their team.
Here are five areas in which leadership is sure to fail:
- Lack Of Trust- In leadership where there is no credibility and reliability to be an effective leader or no faith among the group and with the leader, then the task or any assigned work is sure to fail. That’s why it becomes empirical to take responsibility for the actions and make sure that the team members or colleagues feel guided, and supported by their work, and create a healthy, happy environment where they can work, be trusted by their leader, and can trust them.
- When There Is No Character- Leaders who build excellence help the team become what their teammates are capable of, and to reach that level of excellence requires leadership that is more grounded in character.
- Lack Of Communication- Great leaders turn out to be one by their quality and skills, and the most important amongst them is a great communicator. Successful leaders connect with people on an emotional level. Their words build relations, teach as well as inspire the other mates. Excellent Communication includes listening as well as treating the team members with openness and honesty.
- Lack Of Respect- “Respect must be given before it’s earned.” No team exists without regard, and eventually, it’s hard to lead when people within an organization are unable to resonate. Leaders are known to give the utmost respect and receive respect in the form of loyalty and performance.
- Lack Of Ability- To be successful, it requires tactical and technical proficiency. A leader in the organization states capabilities and performance that set to the tone for team engagement. Leadership is empty without comprehending the work at hand and the best leaders continuously improve their expertise and team members.
Being in a leadership role is not about being perfect in everything but having room for improvement. Remember that being a good leader takes ample time and effort. However, some individuals are naturally inclined to have excellent leadership skills, while others can learn and improve to be good leaders. With hard work, dedication, passion, and strategic planning, you can lead your team to success. Effective leadership propels their team forward with passion, enthusiasm, inspiration, and motivation. It is highly crucial to invest sufficient time in the people you lead to determine their strengths, needs, and priorities.
