Have you ever come across a successful leader who’s made the wrong decision?

A name popped up in your mind, right? Well, that was my ultimate purpose.

Leadership plays a vital role in decision making. A quality that leaders often commend themself on is their judgment and decisiveness. But mistakes are difficult to dodge. Nobody intentionally settles on an awful choice, they simply occur, and even the most accomplished of all leaders have made them sooner or later – understanding the slip-ups were consequently preventable.

Leadership skills are considered the finest when you choose to avoid the red flags while making a decision. When facing a concern or an enigma, you must give yourself time to think and reevaluate the cause before reaching any conclusion. Decision making is a risk-bearing factor, and you need to be considerate as well as deliberate while making one.

When you don’t ask for other’s opinions – As a leader, you have all the rights to make decisions, but having a second opinion would always come in handy. Many times, seeking help from others to conclude is in itself a smart move. The gateways to new insights and better clarity are opened when discussed.

Quick decision – In this Whatsapp era where every person’s patience level has deteriorated, one needs instant response on every statement/question/query. But when it comes to instant decision making, even the best leaders tend to make a mistake.

Complete information is foremost- As the maxim goes, The devil is in the detail, the primary thing one needs before arriving at any conclusion is thorough information on the issue. You can minimize the risk of making the wrong decision by performing full-fledged research.

Gut or Head – Go with your gut feel, an often-used phrase by the experienced leaders. Years of experience and education are the confidence builders when deciding with your gut. But as a learner in the field, one’s instinct needs backup. If your facts and evidence say one thing and your gut says another — think again. The wisest decision is to think with your head rather than your gut for significant decisions.

Being too emotional – To take a decision based on your emotions and intense heat of the moment might not get you good results. If you plan to go for an important decision, make sure to give the matter your undivided attention. Don’t make rational decisions, sleep through it to take things through. Bold choices are what give you the title of a leader.

A good decision-maker is a sound Leader, but sometimes we all make mistakes. You now have access to what will drive you towards bad decision making, so heed the warning and save yourself.
