Why is Web accessibility important?

Access to information, communication, and the web is a fundamental human right in the United Nation Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. According to the Census Bureau, 1 in 5 people in the United States is considered disabled to some context.
Making the Web Accessible
- Make sure your site is keyboard-friendly;
- Make sure all content is easily accessible;
- Add ALT text to all the images;
- Choose your colors carefully;
- Use headers to structure your content accurately;
- Designs your forms for accessibility;
- Don’t use tables for anything except tabular data;
- Enable resizable text that doesn’t break your site;
- Avoid automatic media and navigation; and
- Create content with accessibility in mind.
When websites and web tools are designed and coded properly, people with disabilities can use them. As Tim Berners-Lee, W3C Director and inventor of the World Wide Web, rightly said,“The power of the Web is in its universality.Access by everyone, regardless of disability is an essential aspect.”
