Pushp Dutt is the Digital Marketing Head (Creative & Content Strategy) at Propel Guru, a role that he is in feeds his hunger for business, craft, business, and creativity to make a difference to people’s lives.
We caught up with Pushp to ask him about his day-to-day life, how he maintains a sense of routine, and how he has helped clients respond to the pandemic.
Please describe your job: What do you do?
I am the Digital Marketing Head (Creative & Content Strategy) at Propel Guru that is one of North America’s most successful sales and digital marketing agencies. I’m responsible for overseeing all marketing activities. It is my task to ensure that everything we do at Propel Guru has a clear purpose and aligns with our overall business objectives, and is still tailored for each market and niche.
I’ve emphasized on building a data-driven and agile marketing agency and purpose-driven brand to drive growth. We make an impact through our clients and help them become relevant and proactive in the digital age, enabling them to continue adding greater value for their customers.
My primary responsibility is to bring the vision of Propel Guru to life. Obviously, this involves helping to identify, attract, develop, and retain fantastic talent while also lending a supporting hand to the case for investment into technology, tools, and processes that underpin our proposition.
We strive to have a culture that matches our values and support our esteemed clients so they get the best from their experience with us. That’s a lot if you really ask me, but I work with a lot of amazing colleagues who make my job easy!
How has your typical day been impacted in the short term by the pandemic?
One of the biggest positives that I’ve noticed from this pandemic is the sense of camaraderie from the Propel Guru team. We’re more than just in it together. Our teams are good at finding amazing ways to be creative and have fun.
Thankfully, we were already very well set up for remote working and therefore our logistics gladly have not been as traumatic as of others. I’m having far more internal meetings and company briefings.
I personally view that the pandemic, in fact, caused a burst in creativity and innovation and made entrepreneurs and marketers identify innovative ways to explore new markets, niches, clients, and opportunities while building deeper connections. In a way, COVID-19 forced organizations across the globe to reinvent their client engagement and outreach.
On a personal note, I feel I’ve never been more connected and visualized and humanized our content in a better way. I’ve taken the time to listen, to answer questions, and be there that I believe has made me a more present and authentic leader and it’s something I’m grateful for.
Outside of that, I honestly don’t think that too much has changed. I now have much more time to focus on my daily working tasks. The current situation has meant a sensitivity change to our approach, more than ever, as we want to make sure everyone is staying motivated and positive.
What trends have you seen in the last few weeks and months in your sector?
For some time now, marketers have been on a digital transformation journey. Thankfully, a few marketers like me were possibly some of the earliest adopters. Undoubtedly, the pandemic has redefined and accelerated change for many. In a majority of cases, it has literally forced brands to catch up with the peers and innovate to stay ahead of their competitors.
No wonder, marketers are adopting more agile marketing techniques today to test, learn, unlearn, innovate, and implement. It was never an unforeseen trend, but it’s much more present now, because of COVID-19.
What advice would you give a marketer right now?
Being at the forefront of change in these challenging times requires having a willingness to continuously learn and innovate, and challenging yourself. You must strive to be a continuous learner to succeed in marketing right now. Now is just the perfect time to question everything we once believed to be true.
In fact, marketers need to be great “cyclists” – always on the move, a hunger to succeed, constantly evolving, and never lifting their foot off the gear or stop pedalling. Remember, speed is what creates balance and stability and provides momentum, allowing innovation. Trust me, the moment you stop innovating or lift your foot off the gear or stop “pedalling“, someone else will sneak into and find a solution.
